POST-CHRISTMAS

Wow. I truly can't believe that December has passed so quick. Already Christmas time has come and gone.

December has been an insanely busy month for me. My boyfriends birthday, my birthday, exams, end of year assignments! It was certainly crazy but finally, after handing in my final 5,000 word essay, I was able to relax and enjoy a lovely family Christmas- which was pure bliss.

We had a smaller, quieter Christmas this year with just my mum, dad, sister and auntie, which was nice. As usual, my mum out-did herself and cooked a gorgeous Christmas Day meal. And like always, Santa brought lots of goodies.

This year I got the perfect Michael Kors bag and wallet, and was spoilt with my fave Jo Malone products. I feel very lucky and grateful to have such thoughtful and caring family members!

Even though Christmas had passed, the  busy schedule continues! In just a few days, I will be travelling to Edinburgh to toast 2015 with my lovely boyfriend Jamie. Scary to think 2014 is nearly over, and a new year will soon be upon us.

I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas with friends, family and all of your loved ones!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMIE

Today is my boyfriends 21st birthday so I want to start by saying a huge happy birthday to him and wishing him the best day ever!

Despite living in different cities, we aim to see each other as much as possible. So I was always going to try my best to be there for him on his special day, no matter how busy I was!

As this was the first present I have ever bought Jamie (and it was his 21st birthday), I found it really difficult trying to decide what to get him. Of course I know what he likes and what he doesn't, but I wanted to get the perfect present. Me being me, I thought/panicked about this months ahead of time! I like being organised, what can I say! 😜 I  wanted to get him something that was meaningful and special, and something he would always remember.

In the end, I planned a trip to Edinburgh.  Edinburgh is such a special place for us both, as it's the place we first met. During our first time together, we came across The Caledonian, an amazing 5 star hotel which looked so luxurious and sophisticated. Everytime we passed it, we joked that we'd stay there next time. So, for Jamie's birthday, I decided to book to stay there for 3 nights.

Because December is such a busy time for us both, with birthdays, uni exams, Christmas etc, it was hard to set aside three days where we'd be able to really enjoy ourselves and celebrate properly without rushing home for some sort of event or other occassion. In the end, I decided to book it for New Years Eve. This way, we could celebrate Jamie's 21st birthday and New Years Eve, together in a beautiful and special city. We will go to the NYE street parade and hopefully have a lovely dinner somewhere in the city. I really can't wait. Although I didn't get Jamie a gift he could physically open, I'm hoping he enjoys our trip and that the moments and memories we share, will forever remind him of his 21st birthday.

Fingers crossed he loves his present!

Right now, we are off to celebrate and enjoy the special day!

Enjoy your day!

MUMS BIRTHDAY

Today is my mum's birthday so it's a day full of celebrations and knowing her, a whole lotta champagne!

I am so thankful for everything my mum does for me and sometimes I forget just how lucky I am to have such an amazing mum, confidant and best friend. So today is the day to spoil her and make sure she has a lovely day!

Tonight we headed to The Marcliffe for a special meal. The Marcliffe is my mums all time favourite restaurant (and mine too!) so it was only fitting that we celebrate there. I had a gorgeous steak and chips, delicious!

How are you all spending your Sunday?

SIMPLE SATURDAY

After a long week at uni and everything else that's going on, there's nothing I love more than a completely chilled weekend.

For most people my age, the weekend means going out and celebrating with some drinks. Me on the other hand, would much rather stay at home and spend time with family or have a chilled out night-in with friends. As winter is approaching and the weather is getting colder each day, there's just something so heavenly about staying in and keeping cosy.

For me, the ideal Saturday night consists of snuggling on the sofa, watching a movie (or some sort of TV show) with a cup of tea and a chocolately treat. Because I spend the rest of the week being very strict with what I eat, Saturday tends to be my treat day or the day I indulge a little more, shall we say.

So with all that being said, here's tonights plan ;-)
A lovely and warming homemade dinner, followed by some XFactor viewing, a cup of tea and some freshly baked chocolate cupcakes. Perfection!

Happy Saturday!

TRICK OR TREAT

Happy Halloween everyone!

Wow, I can't believe we are celebrating Halloween already! Where is this year going?

Nevertheless, I love Hallowern so much! Part of my love for Halloween came from living in America, I think. They really do go above and beyond! From decorations to endless costume possibilities. It's crazy. But in a good way! I can't help but be a little disappointed with the lack of effort people make in the UK. We are lucky if we have even ONE trick or treater at our house! Oh well, more candy for me!😜

Tonight it's just my mum and I so we're having a girls night in. A warming Chilli Con Carne for dinner, followed by some homemade Halloween goodies and some spooky films. Perfect!

What's your plans? Enjoy your night whatever you do!

NEW IN: WINTER PIECES

Today, when out shopping with my mum, I picked up some great new additions for my winter wardrobe. When it comes to the colder months, there are certain pieces that are staples in my wardrobe. Namely, a warm jacket and the perfect pair of everyday boots.

A fur jacket is something I have been longing after for quite some time. Not only are they extremely warm and cosy in the winter months, they are also the perfect mix between between causal and formal and can be worn with pretty much any outfit. After hunting high and low for one last year, I just wasnt able to find one in the right colour, style or length.

Initially, when Whistles released the Kumiko Faux Fur Coat earlier this Autumn, I fell in love, as the lilac colour was just really unusual and different from every other jacket I own. But with a £275 price tag, I just couldn't justify buying it. So, you can imagine my excitement when I came across this gorgeous Aldora jacket in Monsoon.

At £99, it was still expensive but much more affordable. When I tried it on, I actually liked it better. It seemed to fit me perfectly and as it's black, it will go with literally anything. I love it and can't wait to start wearing it!

Admittedly, I already have a few pairs of black leather boots. But when I saw the Nima Ankle Boots from Dune, I couldn't resist. I love the style of these boots. They have the perfect heel- not too high and not too low. Perfect with tights and a winter dress or skirt, in my opinion!

I just love Winter fashion. There's something so chic about a cosy jacket and a good quality pair of leather boots.

What's on your Winter shopping list?

PRODUCTS OF THE MOMENT

When it comes to anything makeup or beauty related, I am always so eager to try out new products and/or new brands. Lately, I've started using a few new items. So I thought I would share just a few of my favourites with you.

First and foremost, this gorgeous set from Laura Mercier

I got this Lip Transform Trio Make-up Set collection in "Pink Spark", from John Lewis just the other week and have already worn it so much. The colours really are the perfect shade of pink and can be worn with any outfit, for any occasion. The lipstick, liner and gloss can be worn all together or separately. Although some of the products are "mini", I can already tell they are going to last a while as a little goes a long way, and the products are rarely having to be reapplied during the day. At just £25 for all three products, you really can't argue. Perfect as a gift or for a little self indulgence!

Dior Blossoming Bouquet Eau de Toilette

I got this perfume in Marbella back at the beginning of September, and have been dying to use it ever since. I love Christian Dior perfumes. Each one has such a distinctive, feminine smell.

I finally opened up the packaging yesterday and used the perfume for the first. Falling in love almost instantly. Remembering just why I bought it in the first place! If you love feminine, sweet perfumes, you have to give this one a try!

L'Occitane Shower Gel

L'Occitane shower gels are my all time favourites. In fact, they are the only shower gels that I use. Not only do they smell amazing, they last so long. This new, Bonne Mere Peach Shower Gel is to die for. It smells incredible and leaves my skin so much softer every time I use it. Definitely worth a try. If the peach one isn't to your liking, the new Bonne Mere range comes in several different scents including Honey, Lemon and Rosemary.

Have you tried any new products recently?

HALLOWEEN IS COMING

Our outdoor decorations

Last week, my boyfriend and I decorated my house for Halloween. And I have to say, I am really in the spirit now, despite not having any actual plans!

For some reason or other, Halloween seems to be completely regarded as a day for children. It's almost as if anyone over the age of 16 don't dare get involved. Does anyone agree with me?

Although I won't be getting dressed up or venturing out to trick-or-treat, I am still very keen to celebrate this holiday somehow or other. Hence, the decorations around the house!

Thankfully, my mum is exactly the same as me and has an abundance of decorations for all imaginable holidays.

How cute are these candles?

How are you getting into the Halloween spirit? Have you got any plans?

AUTUMN IS HERE

Autumn is finally upon us. Gone are the sunny(ish) Summer days and here to stay it would seem, is the continuous downpour of rain!

It has to be said, I love it this time of year. The ever-changing colourful leaves. The cool, refreshing air. The need for warmer clothes, and possibly a small shopping spree for a new and updated Fall wardrobe ;-). And of course, Thanksgiving. The epitome of the Autumn season for me.

Although my family and I no longer live in the US, we still make a conscious effort to celebrate Thanksgiving each year. It just wouldn't feel right to pass it by and give it a miss. It is a holiday which I think has a really special and significant message: being entirely grateful and thankful for all that you have. Whether that be the people in your life, the chances and opportunities you have had, good health, your lifestyle, the list goes on. It is a chance to reflect on how lucky we are and reminds us that although we all lead busy (and at times, stressful) lives, we must not forget how fortunate we are.

Not to mention Thanksgiving food is some of the best. Having spent a huge chunk of our lives in Texas, my mum has managed to successfully master the art of the Thanksgiving Dinner. From sweet potato casserole and cornbread to pecan pie and turkey, our Thanksgiving Dinners are pretty special, and are probably closer to a full-blown feast than a dinner, to be truthful. Nevertheless, it's the time for indulgence. The day the diet gets left at the kitchen door and the inner fat child inside of me comes out! With all that delicious food filling our huge Dining Room table, it is simply impossible to resist. Just thinking about the feast we are in for this year, is making me hungry!

What makes Autumn for you?

BUSY

The last few weeks have been really hectic. Uni is in full swing again which only means two things: endless reading and an influx of deadlines. With all that being said, I've finally reached my third year! Only two more years to go before I will (hopefully) be standing on that stage accepting my degree classification. Both scary and exciting! So for now at least, I don't mind the extra reading and hardwork so much.

It's not been all work and no play the last couple weeks. My boyfriend Jamie came to spend two weeks with me and my family. Jamie lives in London which means that fitting in the time to travel and see each other can often be stressful and difficult. Those of you who have experienced a long distance relationship can sympathise, I'm sure. Even though it can be hard at times, we make it work. A lot of people seem to have negative views about long distance relationships. Yes I agree, they aren't ideal, but I believe in that old phrase "absence makes the heart grow fonder". It's true- the longer you are away from somebody you care about, the more you seem to appreciate that special time that you do get to spend together. If you want something to work, you'll find a way.

Jamie & I

During Jamie's time here, we managed to do a lot and enjoyed spending quality time together, eating at some of the best restaurants along the way. We went to one of my favourite restaurants ever. The Marcliffe. The food there is just second to none and I'm really glad Jamie got to experience the food and the atmosphere there before it sadly closes down. He had a huge sirloin steak which, (judging by the time it took him to finish it), I'd say he enjoyed ;-). And I had the amazing Caesar salad, complete with tempura prawns and Canadian maple bacon. Heaven on a plate.

Huge sirloin steak… 16oz to be exact

Simply delicious!

We also dined at Nargile the night before Jamie left. I hadn't been to this restaurant in quite some time. (Over 2 years!). But I was so glad to learn that the standard and quality of food had stayed exactly the same during all that time. They do the best Turkish/ Mediterranean food. Most of which is surprisingly healthy. Bonus!

We ordered three starters- calamari, hummus and pitta bread and arancini (risotto balls), all of my which were delicious. I could have easily just eaten starters all evening! For main course, I had the best steak and prawn kebab which was served with rice and a small side salad. All round, this meal was pretty amazing and I will definitely have to return sometime in the very near future!

Sadly, Jamie has gone back to London now but hopefully he will be back sometime soon and we can enjoy spending time together again! Until then, I go back to my full-on university life where the reading is mounting up and the deadlines are looming!

LONG TIME, NO BLOG.. AND INDEPENDENCE CHAT

It was only recently that it dawned on me just how long it has been since I last blogged. Safe to say, I have well and truly neglected this for quite some time. My lack of blogging is not without excuses, though! Namely due to the fact that I was working in London for the last few months- which was such an experience! (a post on that to follow)

Since being back things have been rather hectic. I have been dealing with university issues (course selection, seminar selection.. the list goes on) non-stop and haven't really had any time to just kick-back and do what I wish! Now that I have some free time, I thought it was the perfect time to start blogging and getting back into the swing of things again. Hence this very overdue blog post.

What better way to kick things off than with a politics post, and the ever-looming referendum?

For those of you that live in Scotland, or have been following the recent referendum news, you will be aware that Scotland has a pretty important decision to make next Thursday. Do we stay or do we go? That is the question.  As a politics student living and studying in Scotland, this is a topic which I find extremely interesting… and admittedly, a little frightening. I may as well declare now that I am very much in the NO camp. This is a decision that was reached with much deliberation, research and thought. After all, it is a decision that will not only impact and undoubtably hugely affect, the next 100 years of my country, but will also change the lives of my future children and grandchildren.

There are several reasons why I will be putting a huge cross against the word "NO" on Thursday 18th of September. First and foremost, I entirely believe that by voting yes, we are not voting for change or a better standard of living, but instead, we are voting for risk and uncertainty. Perhaps, if my main questions and concerns could be answered, then this would not be my view. However, the Yes Campaign have failed to answer the crucial questions, time and time again. When it comes to questions of our currency- we still haven't got an answer about what currency we would operate in, even though the referendum is a mere 6 days away, slightly worrying! Similarly, we still have no answers about jobs, pensions, security, and much more. It seems that "we will have oil" are the only words that the Yes Campaign can mutter. But from endless reports and statistics, we have clearly seen that oil is on the down, and will not last us a lifetime. Or even the next 30 years. Additionally, Tesco Bank, RBS, Lloyds TSB, Clydesdale Bank, Asda and Standard Life, are just a few of the many companies that have all made it abundantly clear that they will be relocating their offices to England in the event of a yes vote. Surely this in itself is enough to set alarm bells ringing.  I will be the first to admit that the event of a yes vote, scares me. It worries me to no end, that so many people are willing to take the leap and such an irreversible gamble, when they have been provided with such little information. I for one, don't want the future generations of my family to grow up in an uncertain, and likely, weak nation which does nothing but limits their opportunities. Instead, I want them to grow up in a nation which is comprised of four equally strong countries, who strive to tackle social injustice and make things better together, not apart.

Secondly, I find the Yes Campaign to be extremely childish and pathetic. From immature slogans to offensive responses, they have left me far from impressed. The latest advertisement they released stated that those who were planning to vote no were not "real Scots" and were instead "traitors". I find this to be a cheap shot and a poor tactic for attempting to gain last minute votes. I will not be bullied into voting yes, nor will I be made to feel guilty for voting the way that I want to vote. Voting no does not make me any less of a Scot, nor does it make me any less patriotic than someone voting yes. I love the country I was born in and I am proud to be Scottish. But I am also very proud to be British, and come from one of the most powerful and influential nations in the world. And that is not an identity I am willing to give up.

The decision that our country must take is colossal. And for me personally, this is probably the biggest decision that I have had to make thus far in my lifetime. I am proud to be voting NO and putting the futures and livelihoods of not only my own family, but also families all around Scotland, first. To vote yes and take irreversible gambles and risks, would be irresponsible of me, and to be honest, it is not a decision I could live with if things went wrong. If someone told you that you could have keys to a new house, but you can't see the house- where it is, how big it is, if it's going to be suitable for you and your families needs.. would you say yes?

I eagerly await for the 19th of September to be upon us, with my fingers crossed that we will make the right decision, securing those bonds and proving that we are very much better together.

What are your views on the referendum?

EASTER

Happy Easter! Today was all about family, so we invited my grandparents round for an Easter Sunday roast. We had roast beef, roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, roasted vegetables and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. So basically, a traditional British roast! It was so good. Since I've been trying to eat healthy recently, I really indulged in this meal. I also finally opened some of my chocolate Easter eggs. I got so many this year from friends and family and I'd been saving them, so tonight I opened my favourite one - Cadburys Mini Eggs.

Hope everyone had a great Easter!

LONDON TOWN

Having just recently returned from London, I thought there was no better post to begin my new blog with, than a post dedicated to the amazing time I had in my favourite city. London is a city I have always loved and dreamed about living in. From it’s remarkable never ending history to its endless opportunities, I just think it has so much to offer. For many people, the constant hussle and bussle of London life is too much. But for me, it is for this very reason that I am so in love with this city. There is never a quiet moment. Everyone is constantly rushing around and there is always something exciting going on. For someone like me who comes from a rather quiet city, this is definitely one of the main things that appeals to me. Although London is so big and the main attractions (or shopping districts in my case) are spread out, getting to and from everything couldn’t be simpler. Each time I visit London, I seem to fall more in love with the city and the general way of London life.

So, why was I in London? Well I was meeting one of my best friends, Kerstin! I met Kerstin when we were both studying Politics at university. Sadly, during our first year Kerstin decided to move back home to Germany. Although we always made the effort to keep in touch, we hadn’t seen each other for over a year! Around Christmas time, we both decided that we wanted to meet and catch up since it had been so long. We’d both had such a busy time at our universities with deadlines, assignments, and of course exams, and decided that a shopping trip to London would be the perfect way to reunite, relax and unwind from all the stressful things going on in our lives. The last few times I’d been to London, I’d travelled with school or family, and always felt a little restricted to what I could do and where I could go. Before going to London, Kerstin and I both agreed that we wouldn’t do too much “tourist things” as we both had done these things before. And therefore, we had six days and five nights to do as we pleased which was amazing!

The hotel we stayed in was really central. It was directly next to the London Eye and therefore not only were we next to two major tube stations, we also had incredible views and had the opportunity to walk the London Eye Pier nearly everyday. Directly across from our hotel, there were many restaurants, small stores and coffee shops which was really convenient. The room we got was adequately sized and the bed was also really comfortable. In general, the hotel we chose was perfect for what we needed.

Since Kerstin and I wanted to spend our week mainly shopping (typical girls), we visited Oxford Street, Bond Street and the surrounding areas many times during our time in London. Victoria’s Secret on New Bond Street and the Topshop on Oxford Street are a must!  We also made a trip to Knightsbridge to go to Harrods. Although neither of us actually bought anything, it was still worth the trip. We took many pictures, especially of the famous Food Hall. Look at all the chocolates and cakes!!

And of course the obligatory Harrods selfie ..

There was also a Laduree in Harrods. These famous macarons certainly did not disappoint! I recommend the Praline flavour mmm. I really could have got a huge box of these, but instead I resisted and only bought two.

And now for my purchases...
I didn’t buy too much in London. Mainly because most of the stores there are the same as the stores here in Aberdeen, and I had a huge “Spring” shopping haul only a week before I left. I did buy a few pieces though, mainly jumpers and shirts and a few bigger pieces such as my new Fossil bag.

I love all the pastel colours that are around for Spring at the moment. When I saw the bag in this mint colour, I just loved it and got the matching wallet, too. I think it is really nice to have a matching wallet, it just makes wearing the bag a little more special I think. Which brings me to my next purchase. Perhaps this was my “biggest” purchase and it was from the Louis Vuitton store. On the last day, I decided to take the plunge and buy the matching coin purse for my Speedy30. I’ve wanted a matching purse for quite some time and although I could’ve just purchased it online, I think it’s much better to go to the store and get the full experience. I am so in love with it and can’t wait to use it!

As you can tell, I am slightly obsessed with bags! I think bags (if you spend money on quality ones), are investment pieces and something that will last you forever. And its amazing how much they can “update” an old look and make every outfit look slightly different.

When it came to eating, we wanted to experience different food and restaurants in London, so we tried to eat in different districts and areas as much as possible. On the first evening, we ate at Nando’s. This was just a casual dinner as we were both quite tired from our early morning flights and we’d planned to go out for drinks later that evening, so just wanted to eat something quick. Kerstin and I have a “tradition” of eating at Nandos since it is something we always did in Scotland, so it seemed fitting that we ate here on the first evening. We also found a lovely Indian restaurant in Soho (Masala Zone), it was so good that we ate there a total of 3 times. Twice in Soho and once in Covent Garden (we thought we’d mix it up a little!). Ok so I know I was saying that we tried to eat in different places, but this restaurant was just too good to not go more than once! We also went to Chinatown, Covent Garden and various other areas within the city for small snacks or meals. Whilst in Chinatown, I discovered Mochi. These are too good and I am now addicted. Thankfully there is a Chinese supermarket in Aberdeen where I have found these so whenever I crave them, I can just go there! Green Tea or Pandan are my favourites, but the Peanut Butter flavour is good too. Covent Garden is also a lovely area with many unique restaurants. They also have a Laduree (yes, we got more macarons) and a frozen yogurt bar called Snog. Many British people will know Snog, as it has become quite a “craze” in the UK, with a huge celeb following.

As London is a city that never sleeps, there are endless things to do at night. However, most of the evenings we just returned to the hotel as we had been out for the majority of the day and we were just so tired. Two of the nights we went clubbing. Once to a club called Rumba and once to TigerTiger. Both clubs had a great atmosphere and we had great nights out. We also had an evening at the theatre where we saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

Overall, we had a great week and it was so nice seeing each other after such a long time. I think it is so nice when you can see a friend after such a long time and reminisce on memories and most importantly, make new ones! We had so much fun and laughs in London and definitely plan on seeing each other again sometime soon - hopefully it won’t be as long as a year next time! Thank you for a great week Kerstin!!

Now that I am home from London and still have some of my Easter Break left, I plan on focusing my energy on fitness and university work. Since being back in Aberdeen, I have been going to the gym a lot more as I want to get more fit and lose a little weight before summer comes. And as for the university work, well if it was up to me I wouldn’t be doing this over the Easter Break! But as I have important exams in May, I don’t really have much choice, so I am using the next week or so to catch up and become more “familiar” with everything.

Hope to blog soon!
Love,
Brooke

INTRODUCTION

Hello and welcome to my new blog. I say "new blog", because this is the second blog I have written. I began blogging in late 2012, and although I immediately fell in love with it (probably because I have always had a keen interest in writing), I never blogged as much as I wanted to or paid as much attention to perfecting my blog as I would have liked. Perhaps, this was due to my hectic university schedule, or perhaps I simply did not have the motivation needed at that given time. Anyway, regardless of all that, I finally feel as if I have the time, energy and motivation that it takes to blog consistently. So without further ado, welcome to my creation, brookepaterson.blogspot.co.uk! Here, you can get a glimpse of my everyday life. Fashion, beauty, politics and friends and family are just a few of the things close to my heart, and therefore, the inspiration behind this blog.

So with all that being said.. let me introduce myself. Well, my name is Brooke and I am 19 years old. I am just an average girl who loves writing and meeting new people, and it is for this reason that I am excited to welcome new readers to my blog, and look forward to getting to know some of you a little better. I love nothing more than interacting with people who share my love and adoration for fashion, fitness and beauty, so please do not hesitate to contact me.

I hope you enjoy my future posts and decide to follow my blog. Don't forget to share my posts with friends, fellow bloggers and anyone else you think would enjoy them.

Love,
Brooke
